Czech Himalayan Adventure II (3x DVD) - DVD

Czech Himalayan Adventure II – a documentary series from Czech Television – is the follow-up to the series Czech Himalayan Adventure I. Unlike the first part, where viewers were introduced to the history of Czech climbers conquering the 14 highest Himalayan peaks, this series is dedicated to the most significant ascents by Czech mountaineers in the Himalayas.

Individual episodes of the series:

1. The Czech Trail
This episode charts the achievements of Czech mountaineers in the Himalayas, from the first famous pioneering ascents to the present day, thus continuing the documentary series Czech Himalayan Adventure I from 2003.

2. A Fateful Mistake
Marek Holeček and Jan Doudlebský's successfully completed and technically very demanding ascent of Kapura is one of the extraordinary successes of contemporary Czech mountaineering. However, the ascent of Gasherbrum I in 2013 by Zdeněk Hrubý and Marek Holeček remains a tragedy. Exhaustion and a fateful mistake caused the fall and death of our leading climber, Zdeněk Hrubý.

3. Beyond the Limits of the Possible
Today's technical climbing in the Himalayas breaks all the conventions and rules of the original conquerors of these great mountains. In 2013, the peak of Talung in the Kangchenjunga massif in eastern Nepal became the goal for Marek Holeček and Zdeněk Hrubý. A year later, they both received a nomination for the prestigious international Golden Ice Axe award (Piolets d'Or) for this ascent, though Hrubý's was sadly posthumous.

4. Killer Mountain
K2, reaching an altitude of 8,611 metres above sea level, has a reputation as a treacherous and dangerous mountain. The only mountaineer in the world to have conquered it twice was a Czech, Josef Rakoncaj. We will primarily feature new Czech ascents of K2 by Leopold Sulovský and Libor Uher, Pavel Bém, and Radek Jaroš with Jan Trávníček.

5. The Crown
of the Himalayas documents three significant expeditions by Radek Jaroš from his collection of ascents that make up the so-called Crown of the Himalayas, formed by all eight-thousander Himalayan peaks.

6. Pilgrims
The adventure of exploring the Himalayas doesn't have to be just about mountaineering. High-altitude trekking is also gaining popularity, as are expeditions to remote parts of the Himalayan ridge where the local people have never met foreigners before.
