Grandpa's Great Escape

Jack's grandfather is old and confused:

* when he goes to the store, he forgets to change his slippers * he only eats canned food, which he makes into inedible concoctions * he often can't remember Jack's name

But he still believes he is flying as a Royal Air Force fighter, fighting the Germans in the famous Battle of Britain. That was indeed the case many years ago... The only one who understands him is his grandson. When Jack's parents place his grandfather in a strange and inhospitable old people's home, Jack decides to save his grandfather. They embark on a great adventure together, even really take to the skies.

David Walliams' new novel is a wonderful mix of sad moments, detective themes and typically Walliamsian humour. It deals with the problem of Alzheimer's disease, family relationships .
