Deep sky
They left Earth to save humanity. But first they will have to save themselves.
We are on the brink of Earth' s environmental collapse. Humanity' s last hope lies aboard a single ship called the Phoenix: Eighty people have completed an elite selection program and are to father a new generation of children in deep space. But halfway to a distant but habitable planet, a deadly bomb kills three crew members and throws the Phoenix off course. The investigation is entrusted to Asuka, the only surviving witness to the bombing, who was already feeling a bit like a fraud before the explosion. She was chosen last on the mission, had difficulty handling training on Earth, and on top of that, she has to represent Japan — a country that, as a half-Japanese girl growing up in America, she only partially knows. She left her mother at home, with whom she gradually became estranged, so that only Fénix was left.
As distrust grows among the crew, Asuka is determined to find out who is behind it before their faith in the mission is completely shattered—or worse, before the person in question strikes again.

Deep Sky is a beautiful and suspenseful detective story. It is an intimate portrait of a character and a thriller at the same time. The space enthusiast in me appreciates that the ship' s journey feels like a completely plausible continuation of our current billionaire space races.
