Dragonfly in amber

Scotland bled to death. Can their love turn back the ruthless wheel of history?

After a tragic defeat on the slopes of the Scottish Highlands, Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser travel to France in the time of Louis XV and see the promise of a new beginning. And they are not the only ones in exile who harbor hope for a better future. Even the Scottish heir to the throne, Charles Stuart, is looking across the Channel for allies to fund his efforts to overturn British rule and allow him to return to his homeland in the position that belongs to his family. However, Claire knows from history that the Jacobite rebellion was defeated for good at the Battle of Culloden in 1746, so she decides to prevent it at all costs. Thanks to Jamie's connections, he infiltrates the Palace of Versailles, where he plays a daring political game with his lover. However, the twists and turns of the charade put them in the path not only of the arrogant French autocrat, but also of the malevolent Viscount Saint-Germain, who definitely has something to pay Claire back...

"An exemplary genre escape packed with action. One of the things that sets Gabaldon apart from other romance writers is her exhaustive research into the era in which the characters live. The story is so perfectly complemented by the small details of everyday life."
