A House on the Edge of Nowhere

Who is murdering young girls?

Another thrilling detective novel from the two-time Jiří Marek Award winner. After breaking up with her boyfriend, artist Nela is left alone in an old mill that they had originally planned to renovate together. Around the same time, the body of a young girl, who had been applying for a job at the local racing stables, is found in a nearby forest. During the investigation, it's revealed that the victim was last seen with Nela's ex-boyfriend. Two similarly executed murders recently occurred in Prague, so it's no wonder that fear begins to stalk the previously peaceful Central Bohemian village.

Reviews for the book

"Well, I'm very satisfied once again. A House in the Country is an excellently tangled detective story, where a plethora of typical Czech traits take centre stage. Addiction, blackmail, sex, infidelity—all set against the backdrop of horse racing. The author knows how to portray the character traits of the individual figures very realistically, and that's what I simply enjoy about her books."

"The third instalment didn't trouble investigator Bergman too much; as is her custom, the author did most of the work for him through her brilliant style and the intricate development of the story and characters. I also got acquainted with horse breeding and racing machinations and the 'idyll' of a village near Beroun. I'm looking for the next sequel!"
