Eagle on the hunt

The third volume of the historical novel series by Simon Scarrow

In the winter of 44 AD, the Roman army captured the city of Camulodunum after a series of bloody battles. While General Plautius, commander of the Second Legion, he's figuring out a course of action for the next campaign, Ship, on which his wife and children are traveling, will be destroyed by the storm. The general's family falls into the thrall of a dark Druid brotherhood demanding the release of their brothers, who have been captured by the Romans. Two volunteers from Plautius' Legion must venture into the heart of enemy territory and attempt to free the prisoners before the druids sacrifice them to their dark gods. The protagonists Macro and Cato must find out where the Druids are holding the General's family. Will they figure out how to save them before the deadline expires?

Simon Scarrow

Simon Scarrow (1962) was born in Nigeria. On his return to Britain he studied history at the University of East Anglia and then taught at City College Norwich. He specialised in Roman history and organised tours of Roman monuments and museums for his students, during which he deepened his knowledge. Eventually he decided to put all this knowledge to good use and start writing the kind of books he would like to read himself - thrilling military stories from the period of the Roman invasion of Britain. He is best known for the Eagle series, a Roman military fiction set in the Roman Empire, which covers the second invasion of Britain and the subsequent long campaign of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. To date, there are eleven books. He became famous for a series of novels whose protagonists are two Roman soldiers, the experienced warrior Lucius Cornelius Macro and his deputy, the promising young recruit Quintus Licinius Cato, who fight under the sign of the eagle. In addition, he is now working on a new series, "Revolution", set in the Napoleonic and Wellingtonian periods. He eventually gave up his teaching career and writing became his main job. He is married with two sons and lives in Norfolk.
