Egg with an Echo - Chronicles of a New Land I.
After a devastating global catastrophe, the Earth has reverted to barbarian times. On the endless plains and in the wild forests, tribes of savages clash in a never-ending struggle for survival. During one expedition, young men from the Stips clan discover an underground centre, a remnant of a pre-apocalyptic civilisation. And one of them, Eb Yrad, is entrusted with a strange egg that has the power to change the whole world. A dramatic fight for the future of our planet begins. Josef Pecinovský (1946), one of the most popular Czech sci-fi authors of the 1980s, has recently returned to the literary scene. The core of his work consists of grim, action-packed dystopian stories, the most significant of which are the short story Házím ti laso, kamaráde (I'm Tossing You a Lasso, Pal) (1990) and the novel Plástev jedu (Honeycomb of Poison) (1990), a reissue of which was recently published in the Pevnost Edition. Vejce s ozvěnou (Egg with an Echo) (1991) is the first book in the Chronicles of a New Earth tetralogy, the final volume of which is still awaiting its first publication.
