El Che: Icon of the Revolution - DVD

Steven Soderbergh's film reveals two crucial stages in the life of Ernesto Guevara, known as Che. The first of these depicts the Cuban Revolution and the period from the formation of Castro's guerrilla group in the Sierra Maestra to the fall of Havana. The second of these depicts the period of the guerrilla war in Bolivia, where Che was captured and executed. However, this document is considerably more comprehensive. Che Guevara hid a much darker side behind his revolutionary ideals. When, after the victory of the Cuban Revolution, he was appointed President of the National Bank of Cuba and at the same time Minister of Finance and Minister of Industry, he soon managed to completely ruin the Cuban economy with his reforms. This retrospective documentary offers viewers a fresh perspective on this South American revolutionary, who remains today a leading representative and personification of Marxist ideas.
