The book aims to teach the reader the basic principles of semiconductor components and related basic circuits. Compared to available books of the same focus, it does not avoid explaining relatively complex physical principles, using modern simulation tools to explain the internal and external behaviour of real semiconductor components without misleading compromises.

It is written in a form that is accessible to high school students, and at a level that can be understood without prior study of disciplines such as quantum physics and semiconductor physics. It thus has the potential to reach the widest possible audience while maintaining the highest possible professional standards. This third edition of the successful textbook is expanded to include a chapter on operational amplifiers.
