Embryology
The textbook of embryology is the second Czech edition, which follows one of the first Czech textbooks of embryology, written by prof. MUDr. Z. Frankenberger, published by Melantrich in the 1930s. The author is a student of prof. Frankenberger and a former long-time employee of the Institute of Embryology at the Charles University Faculty of Medicine. He has published around 200 scientific papers in the field of histology and embryology, mainly focused on the differentiation of the endometrium, fetal envelope, structure and function of the placenta. The first part of the textbook in 26 chapters deals with the earliest development of the human embryo, including the development of sex cells, fertilization, striations, the development of the blastocyte and its nidation. The section on blastogenesis includes a chapter on artificial insemination (IVF), its problems and a chapter on cloning.
