Visions of the future between hope and dystopia
What will the world look like in 2084, a hundred years after Orwell' s famous dystopian vision? Will artificial intelligence take over us? Are we being attacked by barbarians? Are we still going to have sex? Will we colonize the Moon? Will we find a recipe for immortality? Will neo-Marxist totalitarianism overwhelm us? Or will we continue to live at the Stone Age level? These and other questions are asked in twenty short stories by Pavel Hénik, an experienced writer who has, among other things, two dystopian novels to his credit. Some stories are serious and harsh, others are lighthearted and humorous, but they all have one thing in common. They lead readers to wonder whether the current direction of the world will ensure a better life for future generations.

Pavel Henik
Pavel Hénik likes to experiment with styles and genres and does not hesitate to provoke in his fiction. He won the Dobrovský Books Great Short Story Competition twice. He made his novel debut with the book Manekýni (Mannequins) (2017), in which he ironically takes a dig at consumer society. The second novel, Korporac€ (2019), is a " social science fiction" – a light dystopia depicting one of the possible forms of the near future. The third novel, Brrrrnění (2020), for a change, deals with the topic of soft drugs. The fourth novel, Kon$pirace (2021), is again social science fiction, this time based on the (un)real events of the Covid pandemic. The author also returns to the dystopian genre in the short story anthology Episodes 2084.
