Face - DVD

The main character of Mug – a small-town eccentric named Jacek – loves heavy metal, his girlfriend, his small car, and his dog. He works on a construction site where the world's tallest statue of Jesus is being built. When a tragic accident unexpectedly disfigures him, the eyes of the whole country turn to him – Jacek becomes the first citizen in Poland to undergo a face transplant.

Mug is an uninhibited, unconventional fable about inner strength and beauty, masterfully combining realism, fantasy elements, and dark humour. Szumowska deliberately uses a loose structure, its unpredictability enhanced by sophisticated playing with focus. The result is an uncompromising yet exceptionally entertaining study of an identity crisis that skilfully switches from a deadpan farce to a scathing social commentary.
