A new adventure for Peter Grant... and a new start!
We're still in London, but Peter's no longer with the Metropolitan Police. After the conclusion of the Faceless Man case and other vicissitudes, Peter settles down, preparing for his role as a father while facing a somewhat uncertain future. He joins the private sector, Terrence Skinner's IT firm, where things are not what they seem.
On the job, he has to learn to blend in with civilians who are even more geeky than he is, although he still keeps in touch with old friends who accompanied him on earlier investigations, whether they are operating in Rozmar or in America. And here, of course, magic also has a say. The workplace hides a secret, a technology that, while high-tech and exploring the possibilities of artificial intelligence, has its roots in Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage.
The eighth novel in the Secrets of London series has everything we've come to expect from the earlier installments - humour and a quirky view of the world - and then some: like the fact that the company where Peter now works bears a strong imprint of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy world!
