Another one of Inspector Wyr's cases in Five Dead Dogs
Chief Inspector Marie Vyrová, nicknamed the Great Owl, and her colleagues investigate a nighttime robbery in which a group of masked men stole three North American bears from a zoo and murdered the keeper. The investigation is initially unsuccessful; The basic question of why anyone needs live bears remains unanswered. Moreover, when the only identified suspect is killed by one of his accomplices, it is clear that the detectives are dealing with a very dangerous adversary.
Kristýna Horová, a young police officer, a former colleague of the Olomouc detectives who was transferred to the district department in Šternberk as a punishment, is investigating the discovery of five dead dogs that someone carelessly buried in the woods. Her investigation leads her both to the trail of dog fighting organized by a local "influential businessman" and to the conviction that the two cases are connected.
Suspense, fun and shady sides of human nature in the environment of a small Moravian town, and of course the unique commissioner Marie Výrová, all in the next installment of Sýkor's successful crime series. The film version of this book, directed by Jan Hřebejk, won the first prize in the iDNES.cz readers' poll in the category of the best TV film and miniseries of 2016. However, the novel version offers a different conclusion to the case compared to the TV version.
