Flamengo: Chicken in the Watch - CD

A legendary Czech rock album returns! Exactly 40 years have passed since the release of this groundbreaking record, which brought together electric big beat and the poetry of Josef Kainar in a unique symbiosis. For 1972, it was a remarkably cohesive musical monolith, even from an international perspective, combining immense energy, modern arrangements using brass instruments, and a timeless sound achieved despite rather simple recording equipment.

Producer Hynek Žalčík helped bring the album to life and get it into Supraphon's release schedule, connecting the young musicians with the blues poet shortly before his death. Messrs Fořt, Khunt, Kubík, Kulhánek, Mišík, and Šedivý went beyond the usual rock vocabulary, moving towards more colourful imagery, phrases, and messages. The limited initial pressing and the deliberate refusal to repress it, partly due to some band members later moving abroad, along with a series of brilliant concerts, made 'Kuře v hodinkách' an absolute phenomenon.

This current reissue offers the original album plus bonus tracks: Každou chvíli, Týden v elektrickém městě, and Kuře v hodinkách (alternative single version). A crucial feature is the new remastering from the original tapes, which, unlike in the past, allows the maximum of what was once recorded to be transferred to CD format. The lavish booklet with complete lyrics was created by Karel Haloun, following in the footsteps of his own 1998 version, but it has been supplemented and adapted into an elegant digipak form.

Kuře v hodinkách, 2012 model: forever brilliant rock in an anniversary sound and package!
