Foundations and Earth

The famous cycle of the American writer Isaac Asimov's Foundation has reached its climax. Although all references to planet Earth have been systematically erased from all archives available to the Foundation, Councillor Golan Trevize and historian Genoa Pelorat are nevertheless determined to find the ancient cradle of humanity and uncover its secrets. Their journey takes them to worlds beyond the Foundation's influence, worlds experiencing a dark age of superstition and violence, where the mere mention of the name Earth is something unthinkable. Fortunately, they get help from friendly telepaths from the planet Gaia. A telepathically gifted girl, Bliss, accompanies them on their journey and as they get close to their destination, she picks up a wave of thoughts from many intelligent beings. However, she is not sure if they are human beings.

Although Isaac Asimov's famous cycle ends with Foundation and Earth, the author subsequently returned to it in a pair of novels from the very dawn of Foundation, when this ambitious and redemptive project still existed only in the mind of the visionary psychohistorian Hari Seldon.
