Fourteen stops

In monumental strokes, Bedřich Fučík sketches the life and poetic portraits of his favourite authors - in individual fateful stops he captures how he became close to them and how their work left an indelible mark on his life. The literary critic and essayist Bedřich Fučík (1900-1984) held important positions in the publishing industry before February 1948: In 1951 he was arrested for political reasons and sentenced to 15 years in prison (among others. together with Zdeněk Kalista and Jan Zahradníček), was amnestied in 1960 and rehabilitated in 1967. Late books of memoirs Seven Stops (samizdat 1977), Eight Stops (samizdat 1982, supplemented by one essay) and Fourteen Stops (samizdat 1984, further expanded by six portraits) was not so much written by a literary scholar, as more of a poet and psychologist, who treats each portrait in a different way. Thematically, the individual stops are testimonies of personal relationships not only between the rememberer and the creators, but above all between them. Fučík writes with straightforward truthfulness about their weaknesses, but deep down he reveals their personal and artistic greatness. Performers: Vlastimil Fišar and Miloš Hlavica, director: Peter Adler. Filmed: 1990
