General Štefánik
There is a saying about many men in our history: “The republic would not have existed without him.” For Milan Rastislav Štefánik, however, this is truly the case. It was he who opened the doors for the revered duo of Masaryk and Beneš to the homes where the fate of post-war Europe was decided. He was one of the most versatile figures in modern history, excelling as a charismatic diplomat, a French general, a scientist, an astronomer, and a co-founder of Czechoslovakia. His personality combined immense mental strength with exceptional social talent. He made his mark as an internationally recognised astronomer, a courageous military pilot, and a successful politician. He had the ability to move with ease in high society, not only in Europe. He had all the makings of the second Czechoslovak president. The book will acquaint readers not only with his life but also with the more and less well-known events of that era.
