Girlfriend from the House of Sorrow

This book was written spontaneously. So vividly that I didn't think about its meaning until ex post. Most of the books, of novels and short stories, is formed gradually, grow from the idea and the overall idea through the situations of the individual figures, often the author doesn't even know, where the characters will take him. This book is not fictional, the characters are given, and the setting, and the time, and the situations. And the sound. It was created as a good way to cope with deep trauma. I found that in my search for the exact words to express the suffering I had experienced, the trauma gradually materializes, becomes independent of me and goes into the past. It's almost as if I only wrote the story and didn't live it. The trauma created an unusual environment and unexpected experiences. The story is set at the end of the world, in a world of whitewashed violence, and I found after writing the book that perhaps no other setting is as great an authorial opportunity. Nowhere else would I have met people so different and at the same time so open. My main experience, both as an author and as a human being, has been that it is unconcealed violence and humiliating powerlessness that awakens honesty and understanding. Then, when I thought about the forms of the girlfriends, I realised above all that I was not discovering an artificial "pearl at the bottom" in the book, but that the very essence of humanity had been forced into the text in the characters of the girlfriends and in their cases and stories. That was worth thinking about. They were no angels, my friends, some of them were very corrupt and were in prison by right, they would be in prison today. But the great anguish that violence, helplessness and the end of hope evoke, also summons from the bottom of the soul all the good that humanity represents. A donated cigarette means more there than any humanitarian program; or, for example, the confession, "Don't trust me because I snitch on you," will make up for all the prayers. This is not to praise prisons, especially totalitarian ones; I commend the people. Their possibility of becoming human.
