Centurions Macro and Cato return to Rome after a gruelling campaign against the Parthians, but on the way their ship is hit by a devastating earthquake and subsequent tidal wave. After a dramatic struggle for their lives, they land their damaged vessel in the Cretan port of Matale and discover that a natural disaster has turned the towns there into rubble and killed thousands of people. Simon Scarrow

Simon Scarrow (1969) was born in Nigeria. On his return to Britain he studied history at the University of East Anglia and then taught at City College Norwich. He specialised in Roman history and organised tours of Roman monuments and museums for his students, during which he deepened his knowledge. Eventually he decided to put all this knowledge to good use and start writing the kind of books he would like to read himself - thrilling military stories from the period of the Roman invasion of Britain. He is best known for the Eagle series, a Roman military fiction set in the Roman Empire, which covers the second invasion of Britain and the subsequent long campaign of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. He became famous for a series of novels whose protagonists are two Roman soldiers, the experienced warrior Lucius Cornelius Macro and his deputy, the promising young recruit Quintus Licinius Cato, who fight under the sign of the eagle. In addition, he is now working on a new series, "Revolution", set in the Napoleonic and Wellingtonian periods.

Marek Holý

Brno actor. Before studying at the JAMU he preferred to work at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava. From there his journey continued to Prague, where he became a member of the acting troupe of the Vinohrady Theatre. He is the winner of the 2013 Thalia Award for the title role in the musical Zorro. He rarely appears on television, for example in the fairy tales The Seven Ravens or The Cat Princess. He is very much into dubbing and audiobook downloading.
