Godspeed You! Black Emperor: Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada E.P.

LP Record Product information: This nine-piece band from Montreal doesn't shout its anger, but transforms it into sound. They are epically powerful and incredibly dynamic, alternating between melancholy, despair and (powerless) rage. Implosions give way to explosions, and periods of calm are followed by the construction of huge walls of sound, which then immediately collapse. Godspeed are cautious about innovation. This time, there are no tape recordings or spoken-word fragments, but "Motherfucker = Redeemer" is the most rhythmic track in their history to date. Produced by the brilliant Steve Albini (Nirvana, Big Black, plus a thousand other bands), who left their sound unchanged, he is one of the most revered figures in music.
