Goldmines of Laughter

The crazy comedy *Goldmines of Laughter, or Holidays with Karel Hynek* is a humorous story in which an innocent lie told by a young girl, Jana Koudelková, sets off an unexpected series of comical events. The poet Petr Adler travels from the district town to a small village to visit this young girl, where he runs into the 'foolish entrepreneur' Bedřich Hnilička, his rival, Jana's father, and also Jana's 'mad uncle' who trains rabbits. The atmosphere is somewhat reminiscent of the 'Sun, Hay...' trilogy and the works of the world-famous humorist P. G. Wodehouse. The author wrote the book in his youth and has only recently published it after some light revision to fit the modern day. The book was also praised by Ladislav Szalai's somewhat pessimistic friend, the writer Zdeněk Rosenbaum, and you too can have a laugh while reading it. The book is witty, fast-paced, and features an excellent plot with numerous comical twists.
