Gossip. About the most widespread human activity
František Koukolík's new book Gossip is intended for a wider range of readers and deals with the most common and widespread human activity in all times and places. A society in which people don't talk about other people who are not there or don't know that they are being talked about has not yet been found. Children between the ages of eight and twelve begin to fully understand what gossip is. Women and men gossip equally often, but the subjects of their messages are different.
In the text of the book we learn, how gossip gets started, how they relate to our emotions, how and when the kids start gossiping, what are the differences in female and male gossip, what gossip lives in organizations, how scientists gossip and how social networks get involved, whose dark side includes the proliferation of negative ones, stigmatizing and untrue rumors. The end of the book belongs to the celebrities who live on gossip as well as the media that both produce and destroy these celebrities.
There is no defense. Just an ancient piece of wisdom: Shut up, honey.
