Hati

Legends of the North

What stories were told in Inuit igloos? What legends did the North American Indians believe in? And what tales were passed down from father to son around the campfires of the dreaded Vikings? A huge wolf comes to a little girl who is afraid to fall asleep. He tells her ancient wolf legends that have been told for generations by the peoples living near the Arctic Circle. During long nights and snowstorms, by the glow of the fire's flames, the wolf Hati tells the stories of his ancestors. Stories passed down from fathers to their sons in times before they knew how to write. Without fear, the girl Tanaki snuggles into Hati's shaggy fur and listens to him intently. She learns not only about the life of the northern peoples and their coexistence with animals, about shamans, gods, demigods, giants and dwarfs, but also about how important friendship is, even for the greatest loners.
