Havířovina
A mysterious hovel and a writer who returns to her home village to uncover a dark past
Havířovina is a dilapidated house in a small village. Rumour has it that it attracts all things bad—people die there or bring misfortune to others. And perhaps ghosts even appear there… A seemingly insignificant remark from her mother that smoke is once again rising from Havířovina's chimney triggers an urge in the novel's heroine to find out if something supernatural is really happening in the mysterious and periodically abandoned dwelling. She wants to write a book about it, one that will finally bring her the success she has dreamed of after a bitter life experience and an unsuccessful literary career. On this adventurous journey into the past, however, she not only encounters the fates of others but also her own old fears—and discovers new ones. Isn't it true that if we look deep inside ourselves, we all find our own Havířovina?
From the author of the successful novels *Šalina do stanice touha* and *Démon ze sídliště*.
What they wrote about the book:
I think *Havířovina* is a very different book from my previous ones. Although I'm not someone who particularly loves change, I quite enjoy experimenting with different genres, characters, and settings in my writing. I use cynicism minimally here, although it probably does bubble up slightly at times. This is most likely due to my view of the world, which, to put it simply, I perceive as tragicomic.
- Iva Hadj Moussa, author
The believability of the narrative is enhanced by the excellently constructed figure of the narrator: not only the language and style in which she tells the story, but especially the thought processes are well-observed and precise.
- Petr A. Bílek, Respekt, about the book *Démon ze sídliště*
