Viliam Klimáček (1958) is a writer, director, founder of the GUnaGU theatre, and one of the most performed Slovak playwrights. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Bratislava and worked at a cardiac surgery clinic before becoming a freelance artist. He has written over 100 plays, for which he has won 7 Alfréd Radok Awards. He has also written experimental fairy tales, poems, radio plays, film screenplays, and opera librettos. For his conceptual book Noha k nohe (Foot to Foot), he received the international IBBY award. His novel Námestie kozmonautov (Cosmonaut Square) won the Novel 2006 competition, was nominated for the Anasoft Litera award, and received the AOSS Award for 2007. The novel Horúce leto 68 (Hot Summer '68) has been published in Hungary, Albania, Lithuania, the Arab Emirates, France, and the USA.
