Hestia - Center for Volunteering

HESTIA started in 1993 as a Foundation for the Family at the Prague Family Counseling Center. They chose the name HESTIA after the ancient goddess of the family fireplace and good interpersonal relationships, which are also the main engine of their work. Volunteering is their mission.
In 1998, they moved from the foundation to a civic association and began volunteering. The mission of HESTIA - Center for Volunteering is to support, promote and develop volunteering.

HESTIA has several volunteer programs of its own: especially Five P, COMPASS. Their contribution lies primarily in the mutual transfer of experience between the volunteer / mentor and the client of the program. Based on many years of experience with working with children, he tries to promote the idea that children do not need as many material goods as long-term support, feeling and interest of a stable person. This is doubly true of endangered children.

For many years, it has organized educational and supervisory events for volunteer coordinators, methodically supports partner non-profit organizations, cooperates with various international volunteer organizations and organizes conferences dedicated to volunteering. They helped to establish many volunteer centers, prepared a number of methodologies, negotiated volunteer insurance, and participated in the preparation of the Volunteer Service Act.

Since 2001, HESTIA has been awarding the “Flint - the prize for ordinary people who do extraordinary things“, which is an award for the kindness and enthusiasm of volunteers.
Creates bridges where needed: operates the portal www.dobrovolnik.cz and launches community volunteering projects.

He is also involved in corporate volunteering programs. He sees corporate volunteering as a valuable gift from the employer and an excellent opportunity for meaningful fulfillment of social responsibility. The company invests the time of its employees and financial resources in the operation of the volunteer program and acquires motivated employees, effective partnerships with the non-profit sector and new solutions in the field of sustainable business.
