History of Africa
Africa is attracting increasing attention as a continent with an expanding population, offering raw materials, energy capacity, unique nature, and remarkable cultural wealth. The continent's history has been particularly marked by conflict with neighbouring Europe, which, after periods of slavery and colonialism, is now reverberating in emancipated countries as an effort towards a “second decolonisation”. The author maps the development of individual African states and regions, presented clearly for older epochs and in more detail for recent times, using newly available sources and extensive international academic literature for interpretation.
