History of Czech Media

The book provides a chronological overview of the history of Czech media against the background of world history. It captures the social and cultural aspects of the transformations of print, broadcast and networked media and the major technological innovations that have contributed to their development. In a series of separate medallions, he recalls important personalities who are inseparably linked to the media.

Newspaper, magazines, agency journalism, movies, radio and television broadcasting, a large part of internet production (internet version of traditional media, news portals and blogs, spoken word, movies and music for playback or storage) and some network services are part of our everyday lives, both the economic existence of society and political decision-making. They are also an important source of cultural production. In the second edition of the book, major changes have been made, especially in the chapters on the media in interwar Czechoslovakia and after 1989. The last chapter covers the emergence of Internet communication and the digitalization of Czech media.

The publication is intended especially for students of universities and higher vocational schools, teachers of media education, history and Czech literature, as well as for all those who need or want to develop their knowledge of mass media and awareness of its historical development.
