Hole: Live Through This (2016 Edition) - LP

"Live Through This" is the second studio album by the American alternative rock/grunge band Hole. It was released on 12 April, a week after the death of Kurt Cobain, husband of Courtney Love and frontman of Nirvana. The album achieved great success, with music critics hailing it as Hole's finest work.

It has sold over 2000000 copies, and its biggest hit is widely considered to be "Violet". The album is dedicated to Joe Cole, who was shot and killed during a robbery in 1991. It features a more melodic sound than their previous album, Pretty on the Inside.

According to the official BMI website, the tracks were written by Courtney Love and Eric Erlandson. "Doll Parts" was written entirely by Courtney Love, while "I Think That I Would Die" was co-written by Courtney Love, Eric Erlandson and Kat Bjelland. "Credit in the Straight World" is a cover of a song by Young Marble Giants. Speculation has long circulated that Kurt Cobain wrote some of the melodies, lyrics or even the entire album. It is certain that Cobain provided backing vocals on the album, such as on the track "Asking for It", although his voice is mixed very low. He can also be heard towards the end of "Softer, Softest" and in parts of "Doll Parts". A year earlier, the B-side of the "Beautiful Son" single, featuring the track "Old Age", was credited to Hole. However, the song was actually written by Courtney Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, with his band Nirvana, who had recorded "Old Age" a year prior during the sessions for their breakthrough album Nevermind. Eric Erlandson later stated that "Old Age" was given to Hole to rewrite and record. Everett True named a book after this album, in which he documents the rise and fall of grunge bands in the 1990s.
