Hosprová Jitka: Music for Viola - CD

With her previous album Monologue (SU 4049-2), Jitka Hosprová introduced listeners to the most outstanding masterpieces of Czech modernism for solo viola. She decided to dedicate her next CD to a composer who made a major contribution to the emancipation of her instrument in the last century - Paul Hindemith. He wrote all his works for viola over the course of about twenty years - and with the end of his career as a solo violist he also left the instrument as a composer. The selection of pieces also illustrates Hindemith's journey from the echoes of Romanticism and Impressionism to the achievement of his own unmistakable musical language, as already evident in the Sonata Op. 25. The album can certainly not miss the Funeral Music, which was born in London in just six hours and on the same evening in January 1936 was performed live on the BBC - with Hindemith as soloist - to honour the late King George V. Jitka Hosprová's Hindemith is technically bravura and emotionally rich, deep and colourful, just like the instrument itself.

A tribute to the King of Viola of the last century from the hands of Jitka Hosprová!
