Hotel at the Lake of Shadows

Growing up in the suburbs of Munich, Maya's grandmother was the most important person in the world: a storyteller with a good ending, a surrogate mother and a best friend. And then, shortly after Maya's sixteenth birthday, my grandmother disappeared without a trace.

Twenty-seven years later, an event occurs that stirs painful memories and raises new questions: my grandmother's body is found at a lakeside resort in upstate New York. But how did it get there? What connected Grandma to a place thousands of miles from home?

Determined to find the truth, Maya leaves her life in Germany and travels to the United States to unravel a mystery whose threads go far back in time – from New York in the early 20th century to Germany before and during World War II.

But just by arriving at the place, he stirs up the waters and attracts the attention of the powerful and rich owners of the hotel – and, apparently, the rest of the city. And the more secrets she uncovers, the more she becomes entangled in a web of lies that she had to spin herself to uncover the truth – until she finally has to decide how important the truth really is to her.

And if it's worth sacrificing a chance at love and your own life for her.
