Hyperion

Legend has it that one of the pilgrims will have his wish granted by Scorpio, but the others will perish...

In a distant world called Hyperion, lying at the very edge of Hegemony and its laws, will land accompanied by the star captain of the Templar Treeship, Priest, soldier, poet, Detective, a consul and a scholar with an infant. A disparate group of pilgrims make their way to the mysterious Tombs of Time to face the bloody gaze of the ruby-eyed Angel of Pain and hundreds of its deadly blades. Each member of the expedition is driven by their own ulterior motivations, which come to the surface as they confide their stories to each other in a set order. With them, the true nature and immeasurable significance of their journey is slowly being revealed, which could lead to an interstellar war with billions of human lives at stake. A messy conflict between the Empire's Space Force, hordes of barbaric Outcasts and rival factions of artificial intelligences is about to erupt - and the first clash is set to take place on an inhospitable planet, home of the legendary Scorpio...
The first book of the Hyperion Cycle is set in the far future, when humanity is colonizing a universe inhabited by alien races. The author has ingeniously constructed this now classic work of world science fiction in the manner of the Canterbury Tales to present distinctive characters and their unique world through half a dozen diverse stories.
