I lived in the 20th century
Jaroslav Novák, an avid reader of old newspapers and books on history and politics, was born at the very beginning of the twentieth century, lived to a relatively old age, almost to the end of the century, and recalls all he experienced. They were economic crises, executions, concentration camps, two world wars and even fought in one of them, one cold war, the three great empires and their fall, the emerging fourth empire, classical democracy, Fascism, the dictatorship of the proletariat, socialism with a human face, communism and its fall, the restoration of capitalism, the disintegration of a previously hard-formed state. It's really enough for one human life, probably not many people in human history will experience that. The Czech history of the twentieth century was indeed a great drama, which certainly deserved its own Shakespeare.
This drama included, to varying degrees, the fates of many people and the plots of their lives, which were sometimes fascinating. Their incredibly dramatic fate also embodies the tragedy and ambiguity of our history at this time, in which people were torn between various ideologies. As a lover of history, he also expresses his opinion about all Czech and Czechoslovak presidents and some other figures who in various ways made their mark on Czech history not only in the 20th century, e.g. A. Dubček, R. Gajda, L. Prchala, E. Moravec, L. Rašín, A. Hrubý, L. Krejčí, J. Raw, but also of previous centuries and thus significantly influenced the Czech national consciousness. The book has already been published in print and electronic form to mark the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovakia under the title "100 Years of Losses and Victories (on Politics and the Meaning of Czech History)".
