Icy breath
In colonial America, the icy breath of revolution...
The year is 1772 and things are boiling over among the American settlers. Jamie Fraser senses an uprising is coming, and his beloved Claire already knows who will win in the end. But knowing what's coming is one thing - and surviving it in good health is another. As a landowner, Jamie must remain loyal to the British Crown, but he doesn't want to end up on the losing side. And so he tries to navigate between the two camps as tensions rise in the colonies and violence becomes a normal part of life. Moreover, the new immigrant family introduces religious fanaticism into their home and their intrigues result in a tragedy that shakes the foundations of everything the Frasers have painstakingly built. Dozens of hours of emotional storytelling in Jitka Ježková's unique performance convincingly brings to life the atmosphere of late 18th century America and offers a rare opportunity to visit the New World at the most turbulent time in its modern history.
The sixth installment of the Alien saga is rightly considered one of the highlights of the entire series. The author plays a masterful game in which personal dramas intersect with the inevitable course of history.

They wrote about the book:
Diana Gabaldon is a masterful storyteller. In Ice Breath, she proves that she can sustain the tension against the backdrop of great history without losing sight of the small joys and sorrows of her characters' everyday lives.
- The Washington Post

Gabaldon has an extraordinary gift for making history come alive in the pages of a book. Despite the sheer scale of the novel, it doesn't lose pace, and the characters of Jamie and Claire are still fascinating and deeply human after thousands of pages.

Diana Gabaldon
(* 1952) The daughter of an Arizona senator, she studied zoology and marine biology, and was also a long-time professional in both fields, as well as a lecturer in environmental science. She first ventured into literary work in the 1980s, when she co-created the comic strip Tales of the Duck for Walt Disney. However, it wasn't until her debut, The Stranger, that she gained wider attention - a historical novel about a wartime nurse who travels back in time two hundred years to Scotland in 1743. The book won the 1991 RITA annual award for best romance. She has been a full-time writer since 1992 and her books are now published in thirty countries. She has devoted nine titles to her heroine Claire Randall and has also created a spin-off series centred on the character of Lord John Grey. The series adaptation of the substance for the Starz TV channel (since 2014) has met with such an enthusiastic response from female viewers that it has just reached the preparations for the eighth and final series.
