Ilias

The Iliad is an ancient Greek heroic epic poem traditionally attributed to the poet Homer.

Written in dactylic hexameter, it consists of 24 books and nearly 16,000 verses. It was likely created sometime in the mid-8th century BC and depicts an episode from the cycle of legends about the Trojan War.

The epic poem The Iliad chronologically precedes the epic The Odyssey. The Athenian tyrant Peisistratos had its written versions compiled, or rather organised, in the 6th century BC; until then, both epics were transmitted solely through oral tradition.

The significance of this work is immense, as it influenced Greek religion, mythology, and a portion of Greek literature. It also became the oldest surviving work of European literature and has influenced European thought throughout history.
