Immunohematology and transfusion medicine for practice

The publication is published in Slovak. The main reason for writing it was the fact that no monograph focused on immunohematology and transfusiology has been published in Slovak literature for the last 20 years. This deficit was mainly manifested in daily medical practice and in studies at universities with a medical focus.

The book has two parts besides the introduction about the history, present and future of transfusiology in Slovakia. The first is devoted to immunohematology - from basic concepts, through the characteristics of individual blood group systems, their biological function to autoimmune anemias and hemolytic disease of newborns. There is also a practical part - an overview of the most important immunohematological tests.

The second part consists of chapters on blood donation, preparation and testing of transfusion drugs, rational haemotherapy and transfusion reactions. It also deals with some special problems such as massive transfusions, peripheral stem cells and artificial oxygen carrier substitutes, etc.
