In the moonlight
Nina Argento doesn't want the traditional life of an Italian countrywoman. As the daughter of a stubborn midwife, she is determined to decide her own destiny. But then her brother emigrates to America and she promises her mother that she will never leave her. When her childhood friend, Pietro Pante, returns to their mountain town, a spark flies between them. At the same time, however, Mussolini is stirring up political tension in the country. Just as their relationship deepens, Pietro has to return to his work in the American coal mines. Nina is torn between her desire to go with him and her responsibility to Italy and her own mother. As Mussolini's fascists plunge the country into chaos and German Nazis terrorise her home town, every day becomes a struggle for survival. A future with Pietro begins to look very uncertain as they lose contact, and Nina's dreams for her future life are also threatened by the Nazi occupation and an enemy she must face all alone…
