Input, Process and Product
This publication is a collection of 21 papers presented at the 9th “Teaching and Learning Corpora” conference, which took place at Masaryk University in the summer of 2010. The papers were selected based on two anonymous reviews provided by the conference's scientific committee. The book explores various ways of using language corpora in foreign language teaching and learning, and is divided into four sections. Sections 1 and 2 view the corpus as an input source, first examining in general terms how corpora can enrich language teaching, then using specific case studies to show how to put this knowledge into practice, and finally evaluating how students use corpora. Sections 3 and 4 focus on the corpus as an output, which primarily involves comparison with native speaker corpora and the subsequent identification of 'errors' or problem areas, but they also show what students can know and what they actually do know at different proficiency levels, and attempt to answer the question of what this information tells us about the learning process itself.
