Intercity
Magical storytelling about autism, search, and the power of stories
The hero of the magical story is the writer Viktor, who is unable to finish his latest novel. He is stuck in a small apartment with his autistic son Amos during the pandemic. He therefore writes a new story in which he and Amos embark on a journey through a mysterious city full of people wearing animal masks. Viktor hopes that during it he and his son will find common ground and understand each other better. But first he' ll have to figure out what' s wrong with that allegorical city and how his unfinished book is related to it. The key to the solution lies within it. Meanwhile, however, the two of them fall into further and further layers of the city, encountering the mysterious Fox and a creature called a kušík, and are pursued by watchdogs and radical anti-occultists. Viktor discovers the responsibility we take on when we try to convey someone' s story to others.
Lukáš Vavrečka conceived the novel as a poetic auto-fictional narrative of a boy who cannot be reached by ordinary means. Intercity is a book about parenting and autism, but also about how stories transform the world around us.
