Ishikawa Shizuka: Violin Concertos (2x CD) - CD

Shortly after he left Prague for Italy in 1763, Josef Mysliveček earned a prominent place there and soon celebrated his first great successes with his operas. Opera, however, was far from his only area of interest. In Padua at the end of the 1960s, he still experienced the violin virtuoso Giuseppe Tartini and it was probably under the influence of his work that he began to work on his six violin concertos. The influence of Tartini is evidenced by some archaic elements that cannot be overheard in Myslivečko's concertos. The time of their composition coincides with the period of the composer's intensive contacts with the young Mozart, and it is clear that Mozart was again inspired in many aspects of his violin concertos by the work of his older friend. The recording by Shizuka Ishikawa, winner of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels (1976) and the Fritz Kreisler Competition in Vienna (1979), is probably the only complete set of Josef Mysliveček's violin concertos. The young Japanese virtuoso recorded it for Supraphon in 1983 and 1986 in the Dvořák Hall of Prague's Rudolfinum, and her artistic partner was none less than conductor Libor Pešek.
