J. K. Šlejhar: Christmas Eve

Josef K. Šlejhar (1864-1914) came from a family of strict linen factor. He has published almost twenty books (he debuted with the short story "Chicken Melancholic", probably his most famous work), while several large-scale prose works have been printed only in magazines, and he has changed publishers. The short story "Christmas Eve", depicting a story of human mercy set in a frenzied winter landscape, was first published in the magazine Květy in 1894.
