Jáchymov

Josef Haslinger's new audiobook Jáchymov recalls the story of a phenomenal goalie in his 30s and 40s before this year's Winter Olympics.

Boza Modrý was one of the greatest victims of communist depravity. As a member of the national team, he won the world title twice and the Olympic silver medal in 1948.

In the politically contrived trial of the "Blue Case", he was convicted of espionage and treason along with eleven of his teammates in 1950. After a harsh imprisonment, he died at the age of 46.

"Blue and his teammates were innocent. They wanted to live, to win, for the people, for the nation, who loved them for their art, courage and non-political patriotism. The communist regime feared their influence and desire for freedom. In the trial of the anti-state group Modrý a spol. Judge Josef Kruk handed down monstrous sentences." Robert Záruba
