Jacob

Where is the line beyond which even the best intentions cannot justify the means?

The darkest time of the year is descending on Ísafjörður. But as Christmas approaches, the peace of the remote Icelandic village is shattered by a horrific discovery – a mutilated body is found at a salmon farm in the Westfjords.

Detective Hildur Rúnarsdóttir and her Finnish police trainee, Jakob Johanson, have barely begun their investigation when another, equally disturbing murder occurs in another remote corner of Iceland. And soon after, another.

While investigating the series of brutal violent crimes, Hildur relaxes by surfing the icy waves of the Atlantic, but she is still troubled by her failure to find her middle sister, Rósa.

Meanwhile, Jakob is doing everything he can to win a difficult custody battle for his son. How far is he willing to go in this unequal fight for his child? This is the question Hildur asks herself when she receives the worst possible phone call from the police station in Kolar, Finland…

The novel shifts the focus from the main character, Hildur, to her Finnish police trainee, Jakob Johanson, delivering an emotional, psychologically-driven detective story set between Iceland and Finland.
