Jakub Arbes: from Prague still life

Arbes's short story From Prague Still Life offers images of life in Prague, the author's beloved city. It was first published as a sequel in the magazine Světozor from October to December 1879. In it, Arbes tells the story of the owner of a multi-storey house on the outskirts of Prague. It would seem that Mr. Vorlíček is in for a peaceful autumn of life, especially if he finds a skilful and worthy housekeeper for his bachelor household. But who among us can appreciate what he has and not think that he could have even better! Even the good Mr. Vorlicek cannot resist such temptation, which is not without consequences. The radio play based on Arbes' story was written by Oldřich Knitl, directed by Jan Tůma and starring Zdeněk Řehoř, Jana Hlaváčová, Ilja Prachar, Milan Neděla, Jan Přeučil, Hana Doulová and others.
