Jan Roháč z Dubé - DVD

The main Hussite force was destroyed at the Battle of Lipany. Those who did not fall were either burned at the stake or thrown into prison. Jan Roháč of Dubá was among the latter. The lords, whose plotting had put Sigismund on the throne, also persuaded Roháč to reconcile. However, he rejected this offer, retreating with the last of the Taborites to Sion Castle. For Sigismund's coronation, he sent a letter declaring him an “enemy of the land”. In response, Sigismund sent an army against him. After a long siege, the army captured and burned Sion Castle, taking the Hussites prisoner. Sigismund passed judgement on them and had all 54 captives hanged. However, the Hussite ideals were rekindled among the people, leading to a popular revolt against Sigismund, who was forced to flee the country.
