Jan Trachta: Silent Breath

The book Silent Breath brings the testimony of a young Czech surgeon from the African Congo and Haiti, where he flew with other doctors immediately after the devastating earthquake. At the same time, it is a very personal account of a man who set out for distant lands full of romantic enthusiasm. But soon he was confronted not only with the ubiquitous suffering, often ending in unnecessary death, but also with the ignorance and unwillingness of some of the local doctors and nurses. Dramatic depictions of difficult operations in the African countryside and in the ruins of Haiti alternate with descriptions of exotic landscapes and the lives of their inhabitants. Directed by Aleš Vrzák and read by: Marek Holý.
