Renowned film historian presents Werich's FILMforum in his latest book
“We love film very sincerely. We loved it long before theatre, and what we started doing in the theatre, we learned solely from film.”
Jan Werich was, in his own words, a die-hard cinema buff. Unfortunately, in the post-war era, this love was not mutual, and he found only a few opportunities in film. However, they were unforgettable. And the films of his that have been forgotten are certainly amongst the most remarkable – for example, the Russian film The Fall of Berlin or The 25th Hour with Anthony Quinn. And one cannot fail to mention the truly exceptional film fantasy, The Cassandra Cat, by Vojtěch Jasný.
