Jaroslav Fiedor: With his finger on the trigger
A book about fulfilling a boy' s dream, perseverance and courage
Not everyone is lucky enough to have their childhood dream come true. Jaroslav Fiedor wanted to fly or be a soldier since he was a child. He got both. He became a gunner on a military helicopter. However, the path to his dream was not straightforward. After graduating from forestry school, he entered basic military service with the paratroopers. He participated in a mission in Bosnia, which left a psychological mark on him. So he became a gamekeeper for a time. However, he eventually returned to the army and flew on a mission to Kosovo. He subsequently succeeded in the selection process for the newly formed airborne gunnery unit, which changed his life. He flew three Afghan missions, flying a record number of hours over enemy territory, and found himself isolated from his own troops on the border with Tajikistan. He completed training for conducting special operations and a desert survival instructor course. His experiences would last three lifetimes. He reached the peak of his professional expertise, but then suffered a rather steep decline. After twenty-one years spent in an army uniform, he was forced to defend his honor and fight for his rights. This book tells not only about the fulfillment of a boy' s dream, but is also a story of perseverance, courage, and honor.
