The popular Chronicles of the Royal Chamber continues
Behind the town of Jičín, on the road to Zebín, there is a fenced meadow where victims of plague epidemics, as well as executed criminals, suicides and heretics have been buried since ancient times. One day the dead body of the Welsh forester is discovered in this meadow. He is tied to a tree, his stomach is ripped open and a satanic mark is painted on his forehead in blood.
The owner of the estate, Mikuláš Trčka of Lípa, tries to cover up the crime because he is afraid of being investigated by the Utraquist Consistory. However, one of his uncles sues him and the matter is heard in the King's Chamber. Then Jiří Adam of Dobronín is approached by Nicholas' wife Johanka of Šelmberk to try to clarify the matter.
Even though it is not within his jurisdiction, he will accommodate her because he loved her when he was single. But no sooner do they arrive in Jičín than another murder occurs.
